What would you do if you won the lottery?

"Dream holiday, new car, new house...." . These are the first things many people think of. And you never know, it could be you. But what if the 1 in 45 million chance never materialised in your lifetime? What if you waited and waited and dreamed and dreamed of that fantastic new lifestyle a lottery win could afford you...but it never became a reality?
Ok, so let's park the lottery win dream for a moment. The only part of this dream we can control is either buying or not buying a ticket each week. Now ask yourself "What are my 3 top goals at the moment?". Dream holiday, new car, new house...? Or perhaps something as simple as taking up a new hobby, building an art studio or restoring a classic motorcycle. It doesn't matter how big or how small your dreams and goals are. What matters is that you get started by taking action to make them real. To quote Brian Tracy (American-Canadian motivational speaker):
"The hardest part of any important task is getting started on it in the first place. Once you actually begin work on a valuable task, you seem to be naturally motivated to continue."
Why not make a start by writing your top 3 goals and dreams down in front of you now? Look at each goal and visualise what the goal would look like if it were real. Imagine how happy it would make you feel and how much sense of achievement you would gain from completing it. How much better would your life be?
In my years of coaching and mentoring I've heard many reasons why people haven't been able to realise their goals. Reasons like "I'm too busy with my day job", "I've got a young family to look after" or "I can't afford to take a risk". They are all very good reasons and I disagree with the coaches of this world who dismiss people's everyday issues as 'excuses'. We are all different and we all need help in different ways. However, that doesn't mean to say that realising a goal or a dream 'on the side' isn't possible.
As a wise man once told me, "The key is aligning your dream with your lifestyle, one step at a time". So what did he mean by that? I like to think he meant completing realistic chunks of your goals on a daily basis; slowly chipping away at that boulder of an achievement until it has been broken down into smaller, manageable chunks. Then working on those manageable chunks in as much or as little spare time as you can afford in your busy lifestyle.
Now look back at the 3 goals you (hopefully!) wrote down earlier. What steps would need to be taken to complete them? Do any of the steps appear daunting or unachievable? If so, focus on the tricky ones and repeat the process. Each time you repeat this process the sub-level steps should become more achievable, more realistic, less daunting.
This is your rough and ready action plan. Start from the bottom of the list and work your way up to the top and that goal will be completed before you know it. All you need to do is stay focused by reminding yourself of the vision you had earlier; how much better your life would be when it's completed.
