Origin8 specialises in product realisation. This can involve anything from creating physical product, using basic sketches or build-to-print against defined detail drawings. We also offer a complete design to product service based on written requirements.
We can help you by:
-
Designing and creating a prototype demonstrator for investment/licensing or for a private, limited batch development
-
Developing a bespoke product range for an existing or new business
-
Proving a concept through sketch/CAD/Calculation/Analysis and prototype generation
After initial consultation, our team will work with you to develop a requirements specification to define your exact needs.

Central Heating Pressure Test System

A local plumber came to Origin8 with an idea for a powered pressure pump, which offered versatility and portability in the domestic building industry. The pictures above show the working prototype he built to prove the concept. He named the product 'Speedy Pump Pro'.
With the concept proven, he needed help in getting the product designed for an industrial production scale. He also needed a branding/identity strategy to help promote his new product and ensure that investors could see the true potential of his invention.
The images below show the Origin8 design and development journey, which resulted in a fully scalable manufacture solution and development of a working demonstrator for presentation to potential investors.

We started by measuring and modelling the two key components of the system; the pump and the battery. We then packaged these together in their most compact form, before designing an encapsulating sheet metal case to house the internal components. This would later be exported in DXF format to enable direct CAD/CAM transfer and manufacture.

2
+
The next stage was to design a plastic case to house the pressure gauge and electronic interface components. The part was designed to be injection moulded in future but for the initial batch of 10 products these parts would be 3D printed.

3
+
We then designed a logo based on our client's chosen colour scheme and emphasis on the product having been designed and manufactured in the UK.

Showing a view of the complete assembly. An indentation was included in the plastic case for a gel label, featuring the new product logo. A carry-handle, rubber isolation feet and power charge port were also included.

+
View from above, showing the various inlet, outlet and user interface components all within close proximity to one another. The sheet-metal case has been designed to assemble using rivets and M5 bolts. No welding is required

The view on the left shows the CAD design of the plastic case with components installed.
The view on the right shows the initial prototype produced prior to final finishing. The next phase of the project will focus on manufacture of the sheet-metal case.

+
The internal components are accessible via a separate lid plate, which is bolted to the main case assembly. Note: For IP reasons, the internal hose-routings have been omitted.

+
The finished design has now been sent for an initial small batch production run. Origin8 continue to provide support where needed. We wish our client every success in bringing this fantastic product to market. Enquiries can be made through the inventor's website: www.speedypumppro.co.uk

Unique Fidget Spinner Toy Design - For Licensing

A client wanted to create a fidget spinner toy which replicated the 'Golden Snitch' from Harry Potter. This was in preparation for a meeting between our client and a toy licensor. This view shows the CAD design generated to customer specification
The main body was designed to house a 608 bearing. The upper and lower domes are connected via press fit to the bearing inner. The wings are joined to the main body, which connects to the bearing outer. All plastic parts are designed to be injection moulded for future mass production
The proof of concept prototype was 3D printed, assembled and tested. The final prototype was delivered to our client with all associative CAD files. Our client is now in the process of licensing the design
